Early Story:

A Vyasi lived a very pious life, though he was very poor and was struggling to make ends meet. The elders, who saw his devotion, told him one day about Akshaya Tritiya. On Akshaya Tritiya, he kept rice in a bowl along with water, wheat, flour, sugarcane juice, milk etc. and donated to the poor. Although his wife stopped him due to poverty, he sincerely followed Atsya Tritiya. As a result, the Vyasi was reborn as the emperor Kushpati and became famous.

Kubera, the lord of wealth, worships Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu and the goddess of wealth, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Kubera Lakshmi Puja is conducted. The Sudarsana Kubera yantra, the symbol of Kubera, is placed together with the image of Lakshmi and worshiped.

When Lord Krishna's poor friend Kuchelan came to see him on Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Krishna ate the three handfuls of aval (flattened rice) he gave him and instead poured crores of crores of wealth to Kuchelan and made him Kuberan.

Akshaya Tritiya is also celebrated as the birthday of Sage Parasuramar, one of the ten incarnations of the guardian deity Perumal / Thirumal.

It is also said that it was on Akshaya Tritiya day that Bhagiratha performed penance and brought the Ganges, the holiest river in India, from heaven to earth.

Sree Mahalakshmi stayed in Vishnu's bosom on the day of Akshaya Tritiya and stayed permanently. This is the day when Aishwarya Lakshmi and Dhaanya Lakshmi in the Ashta Lakshmi appeared . Srilakshmi is worshiped as Mahalakshmi in Vaikuntha, SwargaLakshmi to Indra, RajaLakshmi to kings, DhairyaLakshmi to warriors, GruhaLakshmi in the family, Komatha in cows, Dakshina and Swagadevi in sacrifices. Lakshmi is the source of all such yogas. Therefore, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, one should worship Sri Narayana's inseparable Goddess Sri Lakshmi. Those who worship in their home will get the blessings of Lord Narayana and Lakshmi.

In the state of Karnataka India, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, women decorate  an urn with cocnut along with Goddess Gowri idol and observe the Swarna Gauri fast. Through this Parvati Devi is believed to be coming to their home. This fast is observed to be blessed with children, for health of husband and family members health and wealth. At the end of the Akshaya Tritiya fast, food will be offered to neighbours and poor.
